This is the sequence for adjusting the speaker and microphone levels for the Microsoft LifeChat LX-3000. It should be the same for other headsets.
The headset is by Microsoft and is 'plug and play'. When you plug it into a USB port, Windows should automatically recognise the hardware and carry out the basic setup.
The sequence below is mainly for adjusting the levels, for recording and listening.
•
Go to Control Panel. Find this using the 'Search' box at the bottom left.
•
Select 'Sound', then 'Manage Audio Devices'
•
NEW WINDOW comes up - called 'Sound'
•
This has tabs for Playback, and for Recording.
For each of these:
a) Make sure that [Headset Earphone] and [Headset Microphone] are selected/activated (shown by green tick).
b) Select (double click) your device [Headset Earphone], or [ Headset Microphone]. New 'properties' window comes up.
c) Go to Levels tab, then adjust, then press OK.
(I have my Earphone set at 66%, and my Microphone set at 100%)
You can do other things, like alter the balance between the two ears, and also carry out Enhancements – I use Low Frequency Protection, as well as Loudness Equalization.
